Record Cover Illustration

I created this illustration as an ideas exploration exercise for a dance music DJ mix cover. I’d be imagining something like this in my mind for a while and needed to get it down to see how it came out. I liked it more than the version in my head.

I found the autumn leaf on my road when I lived in Hackney and scanned it in. The lady and her pet deer are from a pencil box my uncle gave me when I was about 5, I scanned that in too. I hoped the client would be more than ok with the slightly risqué heart positioning and implications as music industry clients often want to keep things edgy. In the end they went with something a little more conservative. I think the guy had something in mind from the start.
